Remember, your well-being comes first. Holiday gatherings can be stressful, but protecting your peace means knowing when to step back, breathe, and focus on what’s best for you. This is a perfect phrase to repeat to yourself or ask yourself when confronting holiday challenges.

Set Healthy Boundaries in Advance

Setting healthy boundaries is a lifelong practice. Discussing boundaries in advance of any commitments allows you to enter holiday situations with clarity. This dietary stress impacts the body similarly to other forms of stress, elevating inflammation and potentially leading to feelings of fatigue and discomfort during a time meant for celebration.

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) highlights that alcohol consumption typically spikes by 100% over the holiday season. Considering the gut-brain axis, this increase in alcohol intake can have lasting effects, such as impairing sleep quality, increasing anxiety, and reducing mental resilience.
